What we do

Toward encouraging active participation of citizens in community development to make Sapporo an even more international communication & exchange city where people of different cultures live in harmony, the International Community Bureau, in cooperation with international exchange organizations, has introduced a wide range of projects for providing information. Some are designed to promote international exchange and understanding, other are for sister-city exchanges and still others are for establishment and management of an exchange salon. The Bureau also oversees homestay, foreign language and Sapporo Guest House volunteer programs.
The Bureau implements human resource development projects for the young people who will become tomorrow's leaders, receives Japan International Cooperation Agency trainees and other personnel, serves as the Secretariat of the Sapporo Area University International Exchange Forum and supports comprehensive learning, at elementary, junior high and high schools.
The Bureau works on the activation of the regional economy by the internationalization support of the local industry and promoting the economic exchange with an overseas city.
