“Off the Coast of Hokkaido and Sanriku Subsequent Earthquake Advisory”– Please be a little more careful about earthquakes –
A notice has been issued asking people to be a little more careful about earthquakes.
It does not mean that a large earthquake will definitely happen.
However, being prepared can help you feel safer.
What is the “Off the Coast of Hokkaido and Sanriku Subsequent Earthquake Advisory”?
When a very large earthquake happens near the sea off Hokkaido or the Tohoku region,
another large earthquake may occur afterward.
At that time, the Japan Meteorological Agency may issue information telling people to
“be careful of another strong earthquake that might happen later.”
Even when this advisory is issued, it does not mean that
“a large earthquake or tsunami will definitely come.”
The purpose of this advisory is to:
- Ask people to be a little careful for about one week
- Encourage people to prepare for earthquakes and tsunamis
What you can do:
- Place items in safer locations so they will not fall inside your home
- Keep some extra water and food at home
- Keep a flashlight and batteries ready to use
- Talk with family and friends about where you will meet if something happens
- If you are near the ocean, check safe evacuation spots (higher ground)
- Always check reliable information
